When a mosquito product says it was “tested”, that word can cover an enormous range of rigour. It can mean a season in someone’s backyard, or it can mean a controlled protocol with a defined endpoint, a control group and a statistician. It is worth being specific about which one applies here.
The endpoint was the larval stage
Every one of the five studies looked at the same part of the mosquito lifecycle: the developing mosquito in standing water. The measured endpoints were larval mortality and inhibition of adult emergence — in plain terms, whether the larvae died, and whether the ones that survived went on to become flying adults.
That is a deliberately narrow question. It is not a measure of how many mosquitoes are in your yard on a given evening, and it was never designed to be. It is a measure of whether the Pod does the specific job it is built for.
The studies asked whether developing mosquitoes in treated water became flying adults. They did not measure bites, and they were not designed to.
Three genera, not one
The protocols covered Culex, Aedes and Anopheles. Those three cover most of what a homeowner in the southern United States is likely to be dealing with, and they behave differently enough that testing one tells you little about the others. Aedes in particular will breed in a container the size of a bottle cap, which is exactly why a contained Station is a sensible place to intervene.
What the studies do not tell you
They do not tell you that your yard will be mosquito-free. They do not measure disease risk, and they say nothing about bites. Any product that moves from “larval mortality in a controlled test” to “no more mosquitoes” has taken a leap the data does not support, and we are not going to make that leap in our own marketing.
What they do support is the mechanism: fewer developing mosquitoes in the Station water means fewer of that generation reaching the air. Run a perimeter of Stations, reset them monthly, and you are applying that mechanism repeatedly across a season.
