Station FAQs
Frequently asked questions pertaining to your Backporch Naturals Stations.
How do my Backporch Naturals Stations work?
Mosquitoes lay eggs into your Traps where Backporch Naturals' plant-powered insecticide kills the developing mosquitoes before they're old enough to fly out of the Station.
And this is what makes it so effective:
Instead of just targeting a single adult mosquito, our Stations target the source, killing numerous developing mosquitoes in the water.
In other words, it disrupts the mosquito life cycle. This benefit is twofold:
- It kills those developing mosquitoes
- Those dead developing mosquitoes won't hatch and continue laying more eggs
How many traps do I need?
It depends on your yard, and what surrounds your yard. Regardless, more Stations equal more opportunities to capture mosquito eggs and further disrupt the lifecycle. In other words, more is more.
Here are some common scenarios:
- 4 Stations: Customers with small yards and cleanly neighbors.
- 8 Stations: Customers with medium yards and cleanly neighbors.
- 12 Stations: Customers with big yards OR who live on greenbelts, near water OR next to neighbors who don’t take care of their property.
Where should I hang my traps?
The goal with your Stations is to provide as many lifecycle disrupting locations in your yard as possible.
Here is where you should hang your Stations:
- Hang Stations every 300 feet in between your property’s corners
- Hang Stations in front of any green belt / field / etc.,
- Hang Stations near any neighbors who take lesser care of their property,
How close can my Stations be to my outdoor living spaces?
Backporch Naturals Stations should be at least 50-75 feet from any outdoor living spaces.
How close should my Stations be to one another?
In most cases, Stations should be no closer than 50 feet from one another. If you have a particularly bad area for mosquitoes (ex: a green belt, a neighbor who really doesn’t take care of their yard, etc.) they can be placed closer together.
Do my Stations work after rain?
Yes! Unlike yard sprays and fogging treatments, you don’t need to reapply after rain.
However, your yard is not an island. Mosquitoes are constant travelers and will fly in from your neighbor's yard and beyond. Your Stations are always ready, but new arrivals are part of the ongoing fight.
Additionally, mosquito populations can surge after rain. While you can’t do much about your neighbor’s yard, you can boost your Stations' effectiveness by making sure to drain standing water on your property (like buckets, toys, and gutters).
What amount of sunlight should my Stations be in?
3-4 hours of direct morning or evening sun, or 6-8 hours of diffused sunlight.
How can I increase the efficacy of my Stations?
- Don't forget to reset. Reset your Stations monthly.
- Patience is key. Our system works by disrupting the mosquito life cycle, which can take time. Your Stations are killing the next generation of mosquitoes by targeting mosquito larvae, so it can take a time to see the full effect.
- Expect the neighborhood effect. Your yard is not an island. Mosquitoes are constant travelers and will fly in from your neighbor's yard and beyond. Your Stations are always ready, but new arrivals are part of the ongoing fight.
- Reduce the post-rain boom. Mosquito populations can surge after rain. While you can’t do much about your neighbor’s yard, you can boost your Stations' effectiveness by making sure to drain standing water on your property (like buckets, toys, and gutters).
- Launch a two-front attack. Yards with consistently high mosquito pressure may benefit from a more comprehensive approach such as pairing your Stations, which kill developing larvae, with our Backporch Naturals Yard Spray, which targets adult mosquitoes.
What if I live next to a person or place with standing water?
If possible, have that person drain the standing water. If this isn’t possible, we suggest placing multiple traps in front of this area. Yards with consistently high mosquito pressure may benefit from a more comprehensive approach such as pairing your Stations, which kill developing larvae, with our Backporch Naturals Yard Spray, which targets adult mosquitoes.
What month should I start my Stations?
You should place your Stations shortly before the start of mosquito season in your region. By starting your Stations early, you will disrupt the mosquito life cycle before it gets started.
