How to use this book
Two questions this page is built to answer quickly: can we say this? and can we show this?
Use the search box above. It filters the claim tables, the creative rules and the approved copy
blocks at once, so typing pet or 30 days gets you to the ruling in a
second or two.
This page is an index, not the authority
The controlling documents are the Brand Identity & Asset Guide and the Claims & Creative Compliance Guide, both version 1.1 and both marked working documents. Where this page and those documents disagree, they win. Where the current approved label or a state-specific decision is stricter than either, that wins over everything.
Anything not expressly approved here should be reviewed before publication.
The six rules that are never negotiable
- Never use “chemical-free”, “non-toxic”, “harmless”, “risk-free”, “EPA approved”, “EPA registered” or “scientifically proven”.
- Never show children — not in product photography, lifestyle photography, illustration, video, packaging, advertising or any product-use scene. Adults only.
- Never claim protection from bites or disease. Do not name Zika, West Nile virus, malaria, encephalitis or anything similar.
- Never claim mosquitoes prefer the Station, that it beats standing water, or that it lures mosquitoes away from people.
- Never claim yard-level population reduction, elimination, instant kill, quick knockdown or kills-on-contact without directly supporting data.
- Never use “trap” as our own product term. It is a Station — except when quoting a third-party article title.
1 · The brand in one page
| Public brand | Backporch Naturals |
| Legal company | Mosgone LLC — used only where legal identification is required |
| What it is | A reusable, water-filled Mosquito Station, dosed with a plant-derived Pod, that kills mosquito larvae in the Station water before they become flying adults |
| Tagline | Take back your yard. |
| Brand cadence | Effective. Simple. Smart. |
| Platform | Disrupt the mosquito lifecycle. |
| Primary efficacy line | Kills developing mosquitoes before they fly. |
| Use-pattern line | No yard-wide spraying. No burning coils. No fogging. |
| Proof | Backed by five PhD-led efficacy studies, tested against Culex, Aedes and Anopheles |
How it should sound
Plain, specific and unhurried. The product's advantage is that it is precise — it works on the water where mosquitoes develop rather than being sprayed across a garden — so the writing should be precise too. Short declaratives. Concrete nouns. No hype adjectives, because the compliance position cannot support them and the brand does not need them.
The instinct to avoid: reaching for the absolute. “Mosquito-free”, “totally safe”, “kills everything” are all both off-brand and prohibited. The honest, scoped version is almost always the approved one.
2 · Naming and terminology
Two words carry legal weight: it is a Station, never a trap, and the public brand is Backporch Naturals, never MosGone.
| Use | Required wording | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Public brand | Backporch Naturals | Use consistently in all consumer-facing material. |
| Pesticide product | Backporch Naturals Mosquito Pods | The registered / submitted product name. |
| Hardware | Backporch Naturals Mosquito Station | Capitalise “Station” in formal product copy. |
| Retail configuration | Backporch Naturals 2-Station Starter Kit | Contains Stations and the same Mosquito Pods. |
| Refill configuration | 4-Pack Mosquito Pods | Use the current approved packaging label. |
| Preferred system wording | Mosquito Station system | Do not call it a “control system” when a simpler product description works. |
| Preferred actives wording | Clove oil and garlic oil active ingredients | Avoid vague “secret formula” or “chemical-free” wording. |
| Preferred lifecycle wording | Kills larvae before they become flying adults | Direct, supported and consumer-readable. |
| Legal company | Mosgone LLC | Only where legal or company identification is required. |
| Never use as our own term | Trap | Always “Station”, except when quoting a source or clearly referencing a third-party legacy term. |
| Never use publicly | MosGone / Mosgone as a brand | Mosgone LLC is the legal company, not the public product brand. |
3 · Logo
The tree-and-swing mark with the wordmark. Always placed from the supplied artwork — never rebuilt with live type.
The logo artwork is not drawn in the brand green
The mark the storefront ships is filled with #004E30. The brand green this book specifies is #214E34. They are close enough to pass at a glance and far enough apart to be a real mismatch side by side.
This needs a decision rather than a guess: either the logo artwork should be reissued in #214E34, or the guide should record that the mark carries its own green. Until that is settled, do not sample a colour off the logo file to use elsewhere — take greens from the palette above.
The rules
- Use the supplied vector or PNG. Do not recreate the wordmark by setting the name in a typeface, however close it looks.
- Maintain proportions. Never stretch, skew or rotate.
- Do not outline, add shadows, recolour or rebuild the mark.
- Keep clear space around the full mark — roughly the height of the icon on every side.
- Never place it on busy imagery. If the photograph is busy, put the mark on a solid panel.
- Use the icon alone at small sizes — favicons and app icons — where the wordmark would be illegible. Favicon sizes held: 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 px.
4 · Colour
The approved primary dark green is #214E34. Do not substitute the older
#214C34 reference that appears in some earlier files.
#214E34Deep Green #173824Soft Sage #DDE7E0Warm Cream #F7F4ECCharcoal #222222White #FFFFFF| Colour | Hex | Primary use |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Dark Green | #214E34 | Logo field, primary buttons, headlines, footer and key brand blocks. |
| Deep Green | #173824 | High-contrast supporting green and dark overlays. |
| Soft Sage | #DDE7E0 | Light brand panels, table fills and supporting backgrounds. |
| Warm Cream | #F7F4EC | Editorial and lifestyle background. |
| Charcoal | #222222 | Primary body copy. |
| White | #FFFFFF | Reversed logo, copy on dark green and clean backgrounds. |
The storefront builds every section from these six through eleven named colour schemes. Those schemes, what each one paints and how widely each is used are documented in the Theme Playbook.
5 · Typography
Two faces, with a clear division of labour. Both are loaded by the storefront, so what you see below is what the site actually renders.

6 · What we may say
The working claim bank. Wording matters: where a claim is written out in full below, that is the wording to use, not a paraphrase of it.
Conditional does not mean “probably fine”. It means the claim is only defensible with a specific qualifier sitting next to it — usually the words “Station water”, or a stated substantiation. The condition is in the right-hand column and travels with the claim.

7 · What we may show
The imagery rules carry the same weight as the wording rules, and one of them is absolute.
No children. Anywhere. Ever.
Not in product photography, lifestyle photography, packaging, illustration, video, social, advertising, or any frame where a child appears near the product. This applies to stock imagery and to user-generated content the brand reposts. There is no size, distance or context that makes it acceptable.
| Creative element | Status | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Children / minors | Never use | Never in product, lifestyle, packaging, social, video, illustration or proximity-to-product imagery. Adults only. This one has no exceptions. |
| Adults using the Station | Approved | Show label-consistent setup and placement. Keep the product context visible. |
| Pets | Conditional | Lifestyle context only, at a distance. Never show a pet touching, drinking from or closely investigating a Station. |
| Pods / tablets | Conditional | Show intact packaged or label-consistent use. Never ingestion, crushing, dust, food contact or playful handling. |
| Food and barbecue scenes | Conditional | The Station must be separated from food-preparation surfaces and must not imply use on food or food-contact surfaces. |
| Mosquitoes | Approved | Adult and larval imagery is fine. Never link mosquitoes with disease symbols, medical icons or illness. |
| Mosquito flight graphics | Conditional | Subtle wind-path or motion graphics are acceptable if they show Station interaction, not luring mosquitoes away from people. |
| Cutaway, water and larvae visuals | Conditional | Clean Station water, small larvae, subtle red X marks. Do not make larvae gross, diseased or sensationalised. |
| Pollinators | Conditional | Bees and butterflies only to explain that the product is not broadcast over flowers. Never claim or imply zero harm. |
| Medical professionals, white coats, caduceus | Never use | EPA warns that medical imagery may imply medical endorsement or safety. |
| Scientists / PhD experts | Conditional | Include name, affiliation and credentials. Avoid white-coat medical styling and avoid “scientifically proven”. |
| Product placement | Approved | Residential outdoor yard or garden, shaded or normal-use location, matching label directions. |
| Legacy “MosGone” branding | Never use | The public brand is Backporch Naturals. Mosgone LLC is used only where legal or company identification is required. |

10 · Before you publish
Run this over any asset — packaging, a page, an email, an advert, a social post — before it goes out.
- The claim appears in the approved bank above, or has written regulatory approval.
- Every number matches the final signed study report and carries the qualifiers it needs.
- Every consumer-facing marketing claim is expected to score above 80 for regulatory safety in its approved use context.
- No child appears anywhere in the asset.
- No disease, bite-protection, personal-protection or yard-population implication appears in text or imagery.
- No “chemical-free”, “non-toxic”, “proven”, EPA endorsement or absolute-safety language appears.
- “Station” is used rather than “trap”, and Backporch Naturals rather than MosGone.
- Environmental claims identify the exact component and have current substantiation.
- Pricing, directions, warranty and package contents match the live site and current approved label.
- Testimonials do not make claims Backporch Naturals could not make directly, and are not used as efficacy substantiation.
11 · Source of truth
When two things disagree, this is the order that settles it.

Both guides are working documents
They are meant to be revised. Update them — and then this page — whenever the logo package, production materials, approved label, claims support, offer or pricing changes. A claim that was conditional because data was pending becomes approved once the data lands, and the duration claims in section 6 are the ones most likely to move.
